The opening round of the OFC U-16 Men’s Championship 2025 wrapped up in Honiara today, with thrilling encounters across both Group A and Group B.
In Group A, Fiji edged Tahiti 2-1 in a closely fought contest, while Cook Islands and Papua New Guinea settled for a 1-1 draw after an evenly matched game.


Over in Group B, New Zealand stamped their authority with a dominant 5-0 victory over Samoa. Hosts Solomon Islands started strong with a 2-1 lead at halftime but were undone in the second half, as New Caledonia mounted a stunning comeback to claim a 5-2 win.


The results mark an exciting start to the tournament, setting the stage for more action-packed matches in the coming days as teams chase their spot at the FIFA U-17 Men’s World Cup 2026 in Qatar.
The next round will kick-off on Wednesday.
