The Solomon Islands Government, in partnership with the Peopleโ€™s Republic of China, has taken a significant step forward in strengthening its logistical capabilities for the upcoming 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leadersโ€™ Summit. A total of 40 state-of-the-art SUVs manufactured by Chinaโ€™s renowned Great Wall Motor have been acquired to ensure smooth transportation for regional leaders.

The first 27 vehicles, funded by China, were officially handed over yesterday, with the remaining 13 set to arrive just in time for the summit, financed by the Solomon Islands Government. These vehicles boast advanced off-road features, luxurious interiors, and low-range 4WD capabilities, making them ideal for the diverse terrains of the Pacific.

Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele expressed confidence that this fleet is set for a legacy arrangement and will be managed by the Land Transport Management Services Division (LTMSD) post-summit, with fair distribution to ministries and provincial counterparts.

Chinese Ambassador H.E. Cai Weiming emphasized that these vehicles stand as powerful testament to unwavering commitment and carry the best wishes for Solomon Islands to successfully host the biggest gathering of regional leaders.

He also reaffirmed Chinaโ€™s dedication to strengthening the partnership with our country for mutual growth and shared prosperity.

A GWM technical expert will arrive this Thursday to conduct training sessions, demonstrations, and workshops, ensuring our mechanical teams and drivers are fully equipped to operate and maintain the new fleet safely.

MID’s dedicated fleet managers and drivers continue to demonstrate excellence in logistics supportโ€”currently assisting with the Pacific Water and Wastewater Ministers Forum.
