Four road improvement contracts for Malaita Province will be officially signed in Auki tomorrow (29th August 2025). These projects are funded by the Australian government under the National Transport Fund (NTF) as part of ongoing efforts to improve the country’s transportation infrastructure.

The signing ceremony will be attended by a government delegation led by the Minister of Infrastructure Development, along with the Australian High Commissioner and staff, local contractors, Malaita Provincial Government, and other key stakeholders.

These projects form part of Australia’s commitment of SBD$60 million (AUD$11 million) announced by Australia’s Minister for Pacific Islands Affairs, Hon. Pat Conroy, during his visit to the country in June this year.

The project scope includes three unpaved roads and sealing a key road section.

Local construction companies will play a central role as contractors for these road improvement projects, creating employment opportunities for hundreds of Malaitans.

This funding is also committed to upgrading key road networks in Honiara.

These projects complement the government’s National Transport Plan 2017-2035, ensuring a sustainable and resilient transportation system boosting economic activities.

Australia’s continued partnership demonstrates its enduring commitment to the development priorities of Solomon Islands, fostering economic growth, connectivity, and prosperity.
