Solomon Islands Gears Up for 2025 Secondary School Games in Honiara

The Solomon Islands is preparing to host one of its most anticipated youth sporting events. The Solomon Islands Secondary School Games (SISSG) 2025, scheduled to take place in Honiara from June 29 to July 4.

Organized by the Ministry of Home Affairs in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, the SISSG is a national multi-sport event aimed at promoting youth development, encouraging sporting excellence, and fostering unity among secondary school students across the country.

With the theme “Education, Health through Sport”, the Games are expected to bring together more than 2,000 students and officials from over 30 schools, creating a vibrant and competitive atmosphere that celebrates talent, teamwork, and healthy living.

Chairman of the SISSG Committee and Deputy Secretary (Technical) at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Walter Diamana, expressed enthusiasm for the upcoming event, highlighting its alignment with the Government’s National Sports and Recreational Policy. He noted that the Games not only promote physical activity but also support the vision of developing sports as a viable industry for young people.

The event will be supported by key national stakeholders including the Ministry of Health and Medical Services, Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, National Sports Council, Honiara City Council, and the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force, alongside private sponsors and local businesses.

As preparations continue, the organizing committee calls on the public to come out and support the young athletes, celebrating the spirit of unity and sportsmanship that the SISSG represents.
