The Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) recently participated at the 19th International Conference of Drug Regulatory Authorities together with all WHO members countries in New Delhi, India.
Attending the conference were the Manager National Medical Store, Mr. Wesley Kukutu and Principal Pharmacist Regulatory Affairs Mr. Michael Junior Inimae.
The conference aimed to ‘Delivering Quality Assured Medical Products for All’. Medicine and medical Devices travel all over world, all Regulators need to work together to ensure what patients get is of quality and safe. These key agendas were discussed at the conference; Smart Regulation – using smart approaches in regulations; Reliance – sharing of Information regarding medicines and medical devices; Regulation Harmonization – ensuring all national Regulations are in line WHO recommendations (bench Marking).
Mr. Michael Junior Inimae, Principal Pharmacist Regulatory Affairs stated the conference is significant for Solomon Islands to attend, because SI does not manufacture any Medicine or Medical Devices in the country.
“We import all our medicines from overseas, to ensure that we get the quality medicines and medical devices, we must use WHO Prequalification’s and other National Regulator’s information to Relay on – we called it Reliance”, said Mr. Inimae.
He explained this information may include; good manufacturing practice, manufacturing licenses, manufacturing inspection assessment reports, product registrations and export license.
“Attending such global event give us opportunities to create network, share information about how well we can benefit from reputed National Regulators around the world and learn from their experiences. Apart from that, we have sideline meetings with few delegates and hope to visit them soon to actually see and learn from them”, said Inimae.
